August 2023 Employees of the Month: Operations specialists save airline employee from choking
Miami-Dade Aviation Department Operations Specialists Stanley Tyre and Barbaro Valdes were named Miami International Airport’s August 2023 Employees of the Month for rescuing an Envoy Air employee who started choking on a piece of candy he had just swallowed.
Tyre immediately called 9-1-1 for medical assistance while Valdes started performing the Heimlich maneuver on the employee. After a few thrusts, the employee was able to breathe again. Thanks to their prompt actions, the medical emergency had a happy ending.
