Compassionate janitorial team named Employees of the Year

Lazaro Herrera and Magaly Hernandez, two janitorial custodians with C&W Services who truly went above and beyond to assist a passenger with a disability, were named Miami International Airport’s Employees of the Year at the airport’s annual Reward and Recognition Year-End Gala on December 9.

In October, a male passenger was feeling ill in the restroom near gate D26 and was unable to make it to the disabled stall in time before collapsing. Lazaro Herrera, a janitorial custodian with C&W Services, heard him yelling for help and ran into the restroom to assist him. Lazaro found the passenger on the floor, who had soiled himself and was unable to get up.

Lazaro called Magaly for assistance, and then they both helped to clean up the passenger, get him into an adult diaper, and then clean the stall.

What Magaly and Lazaro did was above and beyond the call of duty. The compassion and care they provided to this passenger were what most family members would have done. These employees are true assets to the airport and the traveling public in general.
Jorge Quevedo, the Miami-Dade Aviation Department Terminal Operations Agent who nominated Lazaro and Magaly for MIA’s Employees of the Month award

Lazaro and Magaly were chosen as MIA’s November Employees of the Month, which made them eligible for the Employee of the Year Award. As a reward for their extraordinary kindness and compassion, they both received a pair of tickets from American Airlines to fly anywhere in the continental U.S., Mexico, or the Caribbean.
