February 2024 Employee of the Month: Life-saving public service assistant revives passenger with no pulse

On February 29, Miami-Dade Aviation Department Public Service Assistant Bernardo Leon was recognized as Miami International Airport’s February 2024 Employee of the Month for performing CPR on a passenger who was not showing any vital signs. On January 15, Leon responded to a call from MIA’s baggage claim area about a passenger who appeared to be deceased after collapsing. Upon arrival, Leon immediately called 911, checked the passenger’s vital signs, and began CPR. The person was revived after being transported to the hospital. Police officers who handled the incident say that the passenger may not have survived if not for Leon’s rapid response and life-saving skills.
