Mayor Daniella Levine Cava launches groundbreaking at MIA, unveils plans for new parking garage

The facility will add 2,240 spaces, enhancing efficiency for travelers and employees

On February 20, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County commissioners, and leaders from Miami International Airport (MIA) and Lemartec Corporation, gathered at MIA to celebrate the groundbreaking for a new 2,240-space, seven-level parking garage at the global hub. The $136-million Park 6 garage, scheduled for completion in summer 2026, will be located adjacent to MIA’s current Flamingo garage and will substantially increase parking availability for passengers and employees.

This major investment into the customer experience at MIA will make parking and entering the airport more convenient than ever before. The new Park 6 garage will create more availability in our Dolphin and Flamingo garages while also expanding parking on the south side of the airport. With one modernization project after another, MIA is getting future-ready for our growing number of visitors.

Park 6 will also include future-ready features such as 50 spaces for electric vehicle charging, energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, and a Parksmart Silver Certification design - the global certification program that defines, measures, and recognizes high-performing, sustainable garages.

The project is another showcase of Miami-Dade County’s leadership and commitment to leading by example in becoming more resilient in the face of climate change. The design in this project follows the standards set forth in the County’s Sustainable Buildings Program, which ensures that every aspect of the project is built in the most sustainable way possible to conserve our precious natural resources. Buildings and transportation represent the two largest sectors in greenhouse gas emissions inventories, so continuing to follow these sustainable building practices helps the County achieve the net-zero emissions goal set forth in its Climate Action Strategy.

The Park 6 garage is just one project within MIA’s unprecedented $7 billion Next Chapter capital improvement program, which is making airport-wide modernizations and expansions over the next five to 15 years, and paving the way for MIA to reach a projected 77 million travelers and four million tons of freight by the year 2040. Park 6 garage construction will require the closure of some lanes on MIA’s arrivals level from May 2024 to November 2024.

Lemartec Corporation, a national design-build construction management firm, was contracted in October 2023 to design and build the new parking facility.

We are honored to help continue Miami International Airport’s $7-billion capital improvement program with the Park 6 garage. MIA’s Next Chapter initiative demonstrates a proactive approach in transforming the travel experience for residents and visitors alike and Lemartec is thrilled to be a part of it.
