MIA earns Best Family-Friendly Airport Dining Award
Wherever Family readers select airport two years in a row
For the second consecutive year, Miami International Airport received the Wherever Award for Best Family-Friendly Airport Dining, as selected by readers of whereverfamily.com, a trusted source for the modern family written by award-winning journalists connected closely to family travel.
Winners of the Fifth Annual Wherever Awards were announced online on June 1 by the web publication, which is part of the FXExpress Publications, Inc. family of publications that includes Global Traveler and trazeetravel.com.
Whereverfamily.com conducted an online survey of its readers from December 14, 2021, to March 30, 2022, with open-ended questions for the best in many categories important to the family travel market, including multigenerational families. Only those questionnaires with more than 50 percent of the questions answered were counted. Those with less than 50 percent answered were discarded. Employees of the magazine and individuals associated with the travel industry could not participate in the survey.
MIA has rebounded from the pandemic to now have 88 diverse food and beverage options open, which is 82% of the locations it had open pre-pandemic. Last year, MIA made ordering food and beverages as easy as click, grab and go with the launch of MIA2GO, the contactless mobile platform that puts customers in the fly-through lane to quickly browse menus, order, and pay before making their pick-up at restaurants throughout the airport. Eating options are searchable by food type and airport terminal, and orders are scheduled for pick-up at pre-set times, allowing customers to avoid waiting in line.
MIA also ranked highest among mega airports in the food, beverage, and retail category of the J.D. Power 2021 North America Airport Satisfaction Study SM, based on surveys from U.S. or Canadian residents who traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport from July 2020 through July 2021.
