MIA hosts airport tour for aspiring government leaders
Local students visit MIA for Public Administration Day event
Miami International Airport, in partnership with the South Florida Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators (NFBPA) and Broward County Public Schools, hosted more than 20 Boyd Anderson High School students for a behind-the-scenes look at one of the busiest passenger and cargo gateways in the world.
The day started with a presentation by officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Airport Operations Bureau, a tour of an American Airlines maintenance hangar, and then an extensive bus tour of MIA’s airside operations, including its six concourses, cargo warehouse area, and four runways. The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion that featured speakers from the Miami-Dade Aviation Department, the NFBPA’s national office and South Florida chapter, and leading airport food and beverage provider SSP America.
As we continue to foster the next generation of leaders, partnerships like this are essential in exposing students to the vast opportunities in public service and beyond. Today’s event at Miami International Airport provided valuable insights into the dynamic operations that keep one of the world’s busiest airports running efficiently, and we’re proud to help inspire these students to think about careers in public administration and aviation.
