MIA hosts Second Annual Guardians Appreciation Day lunch
The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) and the Miami Airline Management Council (AMC), comprised of representatives from the airlines and service providers at Miami International Airport, hosted the airport’s Second Annual Guardians Appreciation Day lunch on May 9 for more than 500 Miami-Dade Police, Miami-Dade Fire, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) employees working at MIA.
Our public safety and security officers have an enormous responsibility to protect and serve the nearly 200,000 passengers and employees at MIA daily and around the clock, seven days a week. These dedicated public servants deserve our deepest honor and appreciation, which is why I am so proud to see our Aviation Department continue to recognize them with this second annual Guardians Appreciation Day lunch.
MDAD and AMC leaders served lunch to MIA’s frontline public safety and security employees on various shifts. The annual event was held the day before Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Miami-Dade County and during Public Service Recognition Week, which honors the people who serve as federal, state, county, local, and tribal government employees.
Miami International Airport, America’s busiest airport for international freight and the second busiest for international passengers, is receiving an unprecedented investment of $14 billion in capital improvements and maintenance upgrades. MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport and is also the leading economic engine for Miami-Dade County and the state of Florida, generating business revenue of $212 billion and approximately 60 percent of all international visitors to Florida annually.
