MIA lets the dogs out at first-ever adoption day event
Animal Services Department helps travelers connect with adoptable dogs at airport
(MIAMI, April 30, 2026) - To celebrate National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, Miami International Airport partnered with the Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department to host its first-ever pet adoption day in the airport terminal. The event featured two adoption sessions, offering travelers and employees the opportunity to connect with eight adoptable dogs ready to find their forever homes.
This initiative reflects the power of collaboration across Miami-Dade County. When we work together, we expand our reach, raise awareness, and create meaningful opportunities for our community—while helping these deserving animals find loving homes. It’s a powerful example of how our departments can come together to deliver innovative, community-focused initiatives, and we look forward to building on this partnership in the future.
Travelers and airport employees had the opportunity to interact with the dogs, learn about the adoption process, and engage directly with Miami-Dade County Animal Services staff, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the resources and services available to support pet owners throughout the County.
The event proved highly successful, resulting in the adoption of six cats and five dogs, and has sparked discussions about making this initiative a recurring offering at the airport.
