MIA, Miami Photo Fest treat elementary students to photo shoot

Miami Gardens Elementary students got coached by two Photo Fest photographers, then toured the airport for cool pic opportunities

Miami International Airport, in partnership with the Florida Photographic Foundation/Miami Photo Fest and Miami-Dade County Public Schools, hosted an interactive photography workshop and tour at the global gateway on March 1 for fourth-grade students from Miami Gardens Elementary School. The students’ photos will be on display in an exhibition space at MIA later this year.

Kerry Payne Stailey and Maggie Steber, two featured photographers at Miami Photo Fest, provided the students with a hands-on demonstration before they were guided on a tour of MIA’s South Terminal to use their new-found skills. The event was designed to help the students discover how they too can use the art of photography as a means of self-expression.

The inaugural Miami Photo Fest, happening February 27 to March 3 in the Miami Design District, is an international photography festival featuring photography workshops, exhibitions, lecture panels, portfolio reviews, a photo-book fair, youth activities, scholarships and grants.

It was an honor to partner with Miami Photo Fest and give children from our community the opportunity to see their hometown airport through the lenses of award-winning photographers. We look forward to showcasing their photos at MIA, where they will have an international audience of travelers from around the world.
