Spirit Airlines to launch 30 nonstop routes at MIA this fall

Miramar-based Spirit Airlines is making an even bigger and brighter commitment to the Sunshine State by expanding its reach in South Florida. After initially releasing a proposed schedule in June, today Spirit confirmed plans to start service at Miami International Airport (MIA) and announced that tickets are on sale for 30 convenient, nonstop routes that start this fall. MIA will be Spirit’s third South Florida airport—joining Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach—and its seventh airport statewide.

Spirit Airlines has called South Florida home for longer than 20 years, and our expansion into Miami will make it even easier for the Guests we have in our own backyard to access the best value in the sky. South Florida is a vibrant destination from Palm Beach to the Keys, and it’s home to millions. Our new Miami routes, combined with our long list of flights at Fort Lauderdale, will give our Guests unparalleled options for travel to and from the region.
Ted Christie, President and CEO of Spirit Airlines

Spirit’s initial schedule is big enough to earn the airline a place as MIA’s second largest carrier. Adding service at MIA is the next chapter of Spirit’s story as the carrier steps up to meet the demand for high-value travel to and from South Florida. The expansion is supported by 16 brand new fuel-efficient Airbus A320neo planes being delivered this year. Next year, Spirit plans to accept another 21 new planes into the airline’s Fit Fleet™.

I proudly welcome the expansion of Spirit Airlines to Miami-Dade County, which is amazing news for our local tourism industry, our economy and our residents. Welcoming one of America’s leading airlines that is headquartered right here in South Florida makes this announcement even more special.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava

Spirit is one of only three U.S. airlines listed on FORTUNE's 2021 list of World's Most Admired® Companies, which measures companies with the strongest reputation within their industries. The carrier is a Gold Stevie® Award winner for its self-bag drop system with biometric photo matching, which speeds the check-in process and reduces face-to-face contact. Spirit also earned “Platinum” status in the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Health Safety initiative powered by SimpliFlying.
