In its centennial year, American Airlines will further its legacy as the largest airline serving the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America (MCLA) by reaching a record 100 destinations in the region this year. Anchored by the carrier’s global hub at Miami International Airport, American will add new service to its 99^th and 100^th destinations in the region, with flights to Maracaibo, Venezuela (MAR), and Cap-Haitien, Haiti (CAP). American last flew to Maracaibo in 2019 and to Cap-Haitien in early 2020.

With service to 100 destinations, American’s winter MCLA network is nearly 50% larger than its nearest U.S. competitor. For travelers, that means more nonstop access to destinations unserved by any other U.S. carrier, including Anguilla (AXA); Bimini, Bahamas (BIM); Ocho Rios, Jamaica (OCJ); South Caicos, Turks and Caicos (XSC); Montevideo, Uruguay (MVD); and more.

More service to Venezuela than any other U.S. carrier

American will begin flights to Maracaibo on July 14, offering the only nonstop service from the U.S. This new flight will continue to foster business ties and strengthened relationships with family and friends, adding to American’s twice daily service between Miami and Caracas.

American will operate flights from MIA to MAR daily with Embraer 175 aircraft, featuring premium cabin offerings and free high-speed Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T.

Reconnecting Haiti with the United States

American will resume flights to Haiti with flights to Cap-Haitien starting Nov. 1. American will operate daily MIA-CAP service with Boeing 737 aircraft featuring premium cabin offerings and free high-speed Wi-Fi sponsored by AT&T.

Haiti is currently the largest country in the Caribbean by demand unserved by a U.S. carrier. South Florida is home to the largest Haitian American population in the U.S., and additional communities such as New York City and Orlando will also benefit from convenient one-stop connections to CAP.

Miami-Dade County’s hometown airline provides extensive service for travelers

American is proud to connect Miami-Dade County to the world with the best network of any airline, featuring more than 410 peak daily departures. This winter, the airline is enhancing its commitment with increased service on key routes for travelers:

• Two daily flights for the full winter season to Rio de Janeiro (GIG)
• Up to eight daily flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU)
• Up to four daily flights to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands (STT)
• Two daily flights to Antigua (ANU) starting Oct. 5
• Up to six daily flights to Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS)
• Three daily flights to Exuma, Bahamas (GGT) from Dec. 17, 2026-April 5, 2027
• Two daily flights to St. Kitts (SKB) from Dec. 17, 2026-April 5, 2027

In the coming years, American will invest further in premium travel from MIA with a new Flagship^® lounge and a re-imagined Concourse D.

American first began service to Venezuela in 1987 before suspending flights in 2019. For more than 30 years, American served as the leading U.S. airline in the country, helping connect people, businesses, and communities. The resumption of this service is part of the airline’s commitment as the largest airline between the U.S. and Latin America and the Caribbean to provide travelers with comprehensive access to the region.

Starting May 21, American will introduce a second daily flight between MIA and CCS, also operated by Envoy with Embraer 175 aircraft. The E175 is a dual-class regional jet featuring a premium cabin and free Wi-Fi, sponsored by AT&T.

The new Miami route, which began on January 24 with three weekly flights, provides greater international and cross-border connectivity for onward travel by the Latin American and Caribbean hub for Porter’s codeshare partner, American Airlines.

This winter, Porter is offering more flights from YOW than any other carrier, serving 26 non-stop routes. Miami is part of a larger expansion into sun markets from Ottawa this season, with destinations in Mexico, The Bahamas, Cayman Islands, and Costa Rica operating since December.

Porter’s onboard experience provides every passenger with complimentary beer and wine served in glassware, a selection of Canadian premium snacks, and free, fast streaming WiFi. The all-inclusive PorterReserve fare includes fresh, healthy meals and features such as the ability to change flights without a fee, dedicated check-in, extra legroom, and two checked bags. For travelers who prefer to choose specific features to fit their needs, the PorterClassic fare offers these perks à la carte.

Built by FlightPath3D, the online tool puts MIA’s vast global network in the palm of the user’s hands with interactive features that turn and swivel the globe for their destination of choice and then zoom in for tips and reviews about local attractions from travel experts. Selecting “See Destinations” in the pop-up box opens a detailed map of the city with virtual video tours. Users can share destinations and custom trip playlists with friends and family via email or by copying the link. MIA Discover’s travel calendar lets the user select preferred dates, view available flights, and go straight to the airline’s booking portal.

The first quarter of 2026 kicks off an unprecedented year of local sports and entertainment events that will draw millions of visitors to Miami-Dade County this spring and all year long.

MIA offers more flights to Latin America and the Caribbean than any other U.S. airport, is the busiest airport for international passengers in Florida, and the second-busiest airport for international travel in the U.S. In 2025, MIA was ranked North America’s most-improved mega airport in customer satisfaction by J.D. Power, the Best Airport for Layovers by Global Traveler magazine, one of the  Top 10 U.S. Airports for Food and Drink by Food and Wine magazine, and the third-best U.S. airport for business travelers by travel platform Booking.com for Business.

Icelandair’s new service establishes MIA as the only airport in Florida with nonstop flights to four sovereign countries in Scandinavia this winter and makes Reykjavik MIA’s 18th  European destination. Miami becomes Icelandair’s 19^th gateway in North America.

With an extensive route network, Icelandair uses Iceland's unique geographical location as a hub midway between Europe and North America, offering direct flights to around 60 destinations. In addition to the international route network, Icelandair operates a domestic network in Iceland, an airfreight and logistics business, and aircraft leasing and consulting services.

Since its founding in 1937, Icelandair has steadily expanded its route network. In 2024, it transported 4.7 million passengers to 55 destinations in Europe and North America and employed around 3,600 full-time employees.

Working in partnership with global architecture and design firm Gensler, the opening showcases the airline’s new design concept that will serve as the basis for future lounge developments. 

Rooted in hospitality, the new design concept establishes a cohesive architectural identity that connects British Airways lounges worldwide. Drawing inspiration from the airline’s heritage and the character of each destination, the spaces are designed to feel welcoming, intuitive, and restorative, creating moments of calm, connection, and delight for customers wherever their journey takes them.   

Reflecting the airline’s playful side, ‘look-up’ moments feature across British Airways’ lounges, adding a touch of surprise to the experience. Upon arrival in Miami, for example, guests are greeted by a floor mural that, when viewed through the mirrored ceiling, reveals the words ‘London Calling’ as a homage to the airline's home. 

Key Features 

This is the first time in two decades that the airline has had its own lounge available to customers in Miami. It spans 13,000 square feet, making it the largest lounge outside of London solely operated by British Airways.  

Located near gate E20, the space is a celebration of the airline’s British originality, charm and wit, combined with features inspired by Miami, such as its Art Deco design and iconic buildings. With large windows along its walls, this lounge has sweeping views across the airfield and makes use of the beautiful Miami skies and light. The airline used Miami-based contractors, such as TGA Consulting, Nunez Construction and Bermello & Ajamil architects, as well as US-sourced materials that reflect both quality and craftmanship.  

Drinks with a view 

A striking full-service bar serves as the focal point of the lounge and is carefully positioned in front of windows that flood the space with light. Experienced bartenders are on hand to craft a selection of classic cocktails and mocktails, including a Prickly Margarita – unique to this lounge - as well as a large range of spirits and beers, including local ale. 

In the zone 

Designed with versatility in mind, the layout of the lounge offers five distinctive zones that flow seamlessly into each other while offering individual spaces. In addition to the central bar, it includes a main dining space, focus pods, and a lowered central lounge with partitions for those looking for a private space. 

Two shower suites and colorful striped washrooms, inspired by traditional Miami deck chairs, provide travelers with a refreshing reset, complete with a reception and amenities. 

Britain meets Miami in the kitchen 

The lounge features a self-serve dining area offering locally sourced dishes that champion seasonal Miami produce with a British twist, all freshly prepared in the new state-of-the-art restaurant-style kitchen. Customers can expect local papaya and lacinato kale salad with toasted coconut and citrus honey vinaigrette, and seared South Florida flounder fish with lemon, Kalamata olives, fried capers and rice. 

Concorde Dining Room 

Guests travelling in First are invited to enjoy an elevated à la carte dining experience in the exclusive Concorde Dining Room. Alongside a more personalized service, the experience includes a range of dishes such as Wagyu beef strip loin with roasted trumpet mushrooms and a truffle reduction or roasted diver scallops. Champagne and English Sparkling Wine, including Pommery, Cuvée Louise 2005, is also available for guests.

American will be the only airline offering nonstop service to Bimini from the U.S. when service launches in February. From there, travelers can easily visit North or South Bimini. With stunning beachfront resorts, excursions to see dolphins in the open waters, snorkeling, and even world-class big game fishing, American’s new flight will make it convenient for globetrotters to enjoy new experiences.

American will operate round-trip flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from MIA with Embraer 175 aircraft featuring premium cabin offerings. Customers can connect through MIA to Bimini from more than 80 destinations in the U.S. and Canada.

Bimini will be American’s seventh destination in the Bahamas. This winter, American will operate more than 30 peak daily flights to the Bahamas, the most of any U.S. airline. In addition to being the only carrier connecting Bimini with the U.S. nonstop, American is also the only U.S. airline flying to Governor’s Harbour (GHB) and Freeport (FPO).

In response to continued traveler interest in the Bahamas, American has also added additional frequencies during the December holiday season from MIA to Marsh Harbour (MHH) and North Eleuthera (ELH).

Building on the airline’s 35-year legacy as Miami’s hometown airline, American continues to invest in its industry-leading hub at MIA. With nonstop service to more than 160 destinations in more than 45 countries and territories, American is the largest airline operating at MIA.

This year, American has grown its footprint at MIA by announcing flights to Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida (VPS), Milan (MXP), and Sarasota, Florida (SRQ). This builds on the recently launched Miami service to Rome (FCO) and South Caicos, Turks and Caicos (XSC).

This winter, the airline will operate a record-setting schedule from MIA with more than 430 peak daily departures. Earlier this year, American announced plans to build a brand-new Flagship® lounge at MIA and expand its Admirals Club® lounge footprint to more than double available lounge space for customers traveling through the airport.

Renowned for its fashion, art, and architecture, Milan is a bucket-list destination and makes for a perfect destination for South Florida travelers looking for that special Italian getaway. Additionally, its proximity to Lake Como gives customers the ease of traveling to the towns of the charming Italian lakeside.

Last week, American also announced that it is expanding seasonal service with up to three daily flights between Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE) and MIA in 2026. Anticipating more soccer fans from South America to travel north next summer, American is bringing more service to the air to ensure fans can cheer on their favorite teams when they take to the pitch.

With MXP returning to American’s Miami schedule for the first time since 2019, the airline will operate nonstop service from MIA to five transatlantic destinations next summer: Barcelona (BCN), London (LHR), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP) and Rome (FCO).

With three such aircraft currently in operation and a fourth scheduled to join its fleet by the end of 2025, 7Air now flies 20 weekly all-cargo flights between MIA and Managua, Nicaragua, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. It has also operated charter flights to Lima, Peru, and Kingston, Jamaica. Since its first flight from MIA in April, 7Air has already surpassed three million kilograms (3,307 tons) of cargo shipments.  

The two weekly flights provide the first service between MIA and the gateway to Brazil’s Amazon rainforest since 2020. The new service will also provide travelers with a direct connection to the United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP) on November 10-21, 2025, in Belém. The COP is the largest global event for discussions and negotiations on climate change, and Belém will host the 30^th COP (COP30).

The airline will operate more than 37,200 flights from MIA this summer between May 16 and Sept. 2 - part of more than 715,000 flights systemwide over the course of the summer, which equals five flights per minute. American will also increase flying from MIA to popular destinations this summer, including Chicago (ORD), Las Vegas (LAS), Montego Bay (MBJ), Los Angeles (LAX) and New York (LGA).  The airline serves 170 destinations from MIA, including 90 unique destinations served exclusively by American at MIA.

The new route will operate four times a week, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, and continues Viva’s expansion into the U.S. and Florida. The airline already offers regular flights from Miami to Monterrey and Mérida.

Passengers traveling from Miami to Mexico City can connect to more than 30 domestic and international destinations operated by Viva at AIFA, where the airline is currently the main operator. Viva expects to provide 38 routes from AIFA by the end of 2025.

Arajet now operates four weekly flights between Santo Domingo and Miami. This summer, it will increase its Miami-Santo Domingo service to daily flights and also add four weekly flights between Punta Cana and MIA. Since beginning operations 30 months ago, Arajet has already carried more than two million passengers, and this expansion into the U.S. market represents a significant step in strengthening the country’s presence in international aviation.

In Miami, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue welcomed the flight with a water cannon salute before the aircraft was parked at gate E10. The Dominican and American flags were seen waving outside the cockpit in celebration.

During the ceremony, Pacheco, MIA representatives, and Caroline O'Connor, President of Business Operations for the Miami Marlins, exchanged a Dominican national baseball team jersey with a Marlins jersey as part of this iconic and historic celebration. Arajet’s expansion into the U.S. market underscores the rapid growth of the Dominican aviation sector and its ability to compete globally.

The investment in the MIA Lounge emphasizes Avianca's strategy to strengthen its connection to the U.S. market, particularly in Miami, which serves as a strategic hub for travelers heading to Latin America.

The lounge is expected to serve over 16,500 passengers in 2025, considering Avianca's 249 weekly frequencies across 36 routes to and from the United States.

Starting today, the new flights have an introductory fare of $549 for the entire launch travel period from October 26, 2025, through March 29, 2026.

Icelandair’s new service will make MIA the only airport in Florida with nonstop flights to all five sovereign countries in Scandinavia and will make Reykjavik MIA’s 21^st European destination.

In celebration of Copa Airlines’ 35th anniversary at MIA, a special gate event was held featuring performances by traditional Panamanian dancers and remarks from key speakers, including representatives from MIA, the Consul General of Panama in Miami, and local government officials. The event highlighted the airline’s strong and lasting connection to the Miami community. Copa Airlines’ Chief Marketing Officer, Marco Ocando, along with other airline executives, airport representatives, and distinguished local dignitaries, were in attendance. The event concluded with the departure of a MAX9 aircraft painted with a commemorative livery inspired by the wonders of Panama, with a water cannon salute as it took off, marking this historic milestone.

The new La Romana route joins more than 415 peak daily flights to more than 155 destinations from MIA and comes just in time for the winter holiday travel season when the airline will run its largest-ever schedule with more seats and flights than ever before from Miami. 

American will operate two daily flights between MIA and LHR next summer. Together with American’s joint business partners, service to LHR complements service to other partner hubs, allowing customers to create seamless itineraries to more than 175 destinations in Europe.

Last month, American also announced its first-ever service from MIA to Rome. That service will now start on June 5 and a month earlier than previously planned, giving customers more time to visit Italy next summer.  

New service to Rome and extended service to London complement the airline’s robust network from MIA to more than 155 destinations in 45 countries and territories. Next summer, American will offer service to five European destinations from MIA, including year-round service to Barcelona, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), London, and Madrid. American is the only U.S. carrier to serve CDG and FCO from MIA. 

The four weekly nonstop Miami flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday expand on the airline’s current three-weekly one-stop flights between San Salvador and Miami via San Pedro Sula, Honduras, giving Volaris weekly flights at MIA. Volaris El Salvador entered the Miami market in December 2022 with the San Salvador-San Pedro Sula-Miami route.

Volaris El Salvador maintains regular operations from San Salvador to New York (JFK), Washington, D.C. (IAD), Los Angeles (LAX), Houston (IAH), Oakland (OAK), and Miami (MIA). The direct route to Miami is the eleventh for Volaris El Salvador, which also maintains flights to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Cancun.

The new lobby includes ten new ticket counters, 13 self-serve kiosks, and updated signage and wayfinding. It also features one of United’s most recent time-saving mobile app features: Curbside Bag Drop Shortcut, making MIA one of the first 20 stations to receive this product. Miami customers can now skip the check-in line and drop off bags at the designated bag drop shortcut location by checking bags in the app before arriving at the airport.

Mexico was MIA’s third-largest international market in 2023, responsible for nearly 1.6 million of the airport’s passengers last year. Viva Aerobus will join American Airlines in providing weekly flights from MIA to Monterrey and Merida.

The low-cost carrier is also the fourth airline to launch passenger service at MIA this year, joining Condor Airlines, LEVEL, and Avelo Airlines. Based in Monterrey, Viva Aerobus started operations in 2006 and expects to operate 190 daily flights in 2024.

Delta Sky Club Members can access the lounge with same-day ticketed air travel on Delta or its partner airlines. Last year, Upgraded Points ranked MIA’s passenger lounges the best among U.S. airports. The study ranked 50 of the nation's largest airports based on factors such as available amenities, dining options, lounge saturation, customer ratings, and operating hours.

LEVEL, the Barcelona-based long-haul airline of International Airlines Group (IAG) that was born in 2017, began three weekly flights at MIA on March 31 to begin its summer travel season. LEVEL will increase the new service to four weekly flights from June to September. LEVEL is one of the six airline brands within IAG, alongside Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Iberia Express, and Vueling. Spain was MIA’s 8^th busiest international market in 2023, responsible for more than 913,000 passengers.

Quake’s 6.5-foot-by-13-foot painting Crossroads, which pays tribute to Barcelona and Miami-Dade County – two global hotspots for graffiti art – was unveiled during the event prior to the inaugural flight. The artwork, which includes spray paint enamel, acrylic, and latex on canvas, will be installed for temporary display inside MIA’s Concourse F. Crossroads was made possible through a partnership with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and Goldman Global Arts. Quake also signed postcard-sized versions of Crossroads for LEVEL’s inaugural passengers.

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan destination that is the capital and largest city of the autonomous community of Catalonia, as well as the second-most populous municipality of Spain. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and Gaudi's art, the city offers visitors a wide range of culture, history, and spectacular beaches for entertainment or simply relaxation. The city is also known for its rich gastronomy, with restaurants catering to every palate.

Service from MIA to Tulum will operate daily year-round, providing customers direct and convenient access to the ancient ruins, picturesque landscapes, and white sand beaches of this Mexican paradise. The flight will operate on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with seating for 172 passengers.

The Tulum route will complement the 45 other unique destinations American operates in the MCLA region direct from MIA. In February, American also launched new service to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas, and became the only U.S. airline to offer direct service to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

The fuel-efficient Airbus A330-900neo aircraft reduces fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by 20 percent, consuming just half a gallon of fuel per passenger per 62 miles flown. It is the first aircraft in the world already certified for the regulatory reduction in CO₂ emissions, which will be required by 2028, and that subsequently will reduce travelers’ environmental footprint, according to Condor. Condor’s A330neo accommodates 310 passengers with four Prime Seats, 26 seats in Business Class, 64 seats in Premium Economy Class, and 216 seats in Economy Class.

Condor’s A330neo Business Class offers fully lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all guests. The seats conveniently convert to a bed with a length of 78” and a width of 19”. Guests have access to the latest movies, TV series, podcasts, and games, all accessible on a 17.3” screen in 4K mode, with touchscreen and remote-control options.  The Prime Seats in the first row of the Business Class provide guests with added space large enough to accommodate two guests if they wish to dine together and an extra-large, 24-inch entertainment screen. The “Prime Seats” feature exclusive in-flight amenities such as a premium travel kit, inflight pajamas, and a premium snack basket.

The new service to Ocho Rios complements service from MIA to Kingston (KIN) and Montego Bay (MBJ), as well as 45 unique destinations direct from MIA to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. On February 3, American launched new nonstop service from MIA to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas (GHB).

As the airline’s robust international schedule grows, American is operating its largest schedule on record at MIA with 390 peak-day flights this winter.

American’s new service operates on Tuesdays and Saturdays with Embraer E175 aircraft, complementing the airline’s winter schedule for the Bahamas that includes up to 14 daily departures to six Bahamian destinations: Freeport, George Town, Marsh Harbor, Nassau, North Eleuthera, San Salvador. This spring, American will operate more than 380 peak-day flights serving 150 destinations worldwide from MIA.

In addition to daily Miami-Nassau service, Bahamasair also offers weekly service from MIA to San Salvador, Bahamas, giving MIA more nonstop destinations in the Bahamas than any other U.S. airport.

Florida One, which features an artist’s rendering of Florida’s state flag in the paint scheme, debuted in 2010 after 32 Boeing employees worked in three shifts over eight days, utilizing 46 gallons of paint and incorporating 16 different colors to bring the unique livery to life.

Southwest began flying from MIA in 2020 and is now the airport’s fifth-largest airline in seat capacity, providing daily flights to nine U.S. cities from Miami. National Florida Day was founded in 2017 by National Day Calendar® to celebrate Florida as the 27^th state to join the Union.

The route connecting Miami International Airport with Barcelona-El Prat Airport will begin with three weekly frequencies on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and grow to a fourth frequency on Saturdays from June to September.

Miami will become the fifth city in the United States that LEVEL connects non-stop from Barcelona, alongside New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

For the 2024 summer season, LEVEL, IAG’s long-haul airline, will increase its seat capacity in the United States by 50%, demonstrating this market's relevance for the company. 

The new route from Miami and the reinforcement of operations for the upcoming summer period in the U.S. and South America, where LEVEL also operates, are made possible by adding a sixth aircraft to its fleet, strengthening Barcelona's intercontinental hub.Thanks to the connectivity with Vueling, another IAG airline, LEVEL offers various destinations in Spain and Europe.

The sixth aircraft is part of the recently announced fleet growth plan, which aims to reach eight planes by 2026. 

Barcelona is a cosmopolitan destination in Spain. Surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and Gaudi's art, the city offers visitors a wide range of culture, history, and spectacular beaches for entertainment or simply relaxation. The city is also known for its rich gastronomy, with restaurants catering to every palate.

LEVEL is a long-haul, low-cost International Airlines Group (IAG) airline born in June 2017. LEVEL is one of the six airline brands within IAG, alongside Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Iberia Express, and Vueling.

Porter’s inaugural departure from MIA to Toronto Pearson International Airport was one of the airline’s first in the U.S. using its 132-seat, all-economy Embraer E195-E2 aircraft with no middle seats. Inaugural passengers received special refreshments and a voucher for future travel. Porter passengers also receive a selection of premium snacks and free beer and wine served in glassware on every flight.

Miami is one of five Florida destinations that Porter has begun serving this winter. At 603,000 passengers in 2022, Canada was MIA’s 10^th-busiest international market last year, and travel between Canada and MIA is up 44% in 2023.

The new route also connects to Porter's domestic network at Toronto Pearson, with flights available to Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, St John's, and Winnipeg.

Passengers can explore the ancient ruins, mystical cenotes, diverse landscapes, and white-sand beaches of Tulum when the new route launches on March 28, 2024. Tulum will join Cancun, Cozumel, Merida, Monterrey, and Mexico City as American’s sixth Mexican route at MIA.

On June 5, American will further expand its Latin American and Caribbean network from MIA when it increases daily frequencies on the following routes: Antigua (two daily); Anguilla (two daily); Georgetown, Guyana (two daily); Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (two daily); Providenciales, Turks and Caicos (three daily); and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (two daily).

The announcement follows American’s build-up to its full winter schedule at MIA that began with the launch of daily service to Portland, Oregon on November 5. By December 20, American will be providing more than 380 peak-day flights to 150 destinations from MIA to create its largest winter schedule ever at the global gateway, for a 10-percent increase in seat capacity over last winter.  

Mexico was MIA’s 2^nd-largest international market in 2022, responsible for nearly 1.7 million passengers. Monterrey and Merida are both currently served by American Airlines at MIA. Based in Monterrey, Viva Aerobus started operations in 2006 and expects to operate 190 daily flights in 2024.

To accommodate the new Miami route, which will become LEVEL’s fifth U.S. destination, the airline will add to its fleet a sixth Airbus A330-200 that seats 314 passengers.

The event also marked the first in a series of four service launches at MIA before the winter travel season that will give the airport more flights to Scandinavia than any other Florida airport.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will restart Miami service on October 29 with two weekly flights to Stockholm, Sweden, and five weekly flights to Copenhagen, Denmark. In the following month, Finnair will also return to MIA with three weekly flights to Helsinki, Finland starting on November 25.

No other Florida airport has nonstop service to the four Scandinavian countries of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, which each have popular holiday attractions during the winter season. Whether it is the Christmas markets of Hygge or Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, Gamla Stan in Stockholm, Spikersuppa in Oslo, or Senate Square in Helsinki, Floridians can soon get to all these winter wonderland vacation destinations from MIA.

Condor’s Airbus A330neo will feature Business Class with full lie-flat seats and four of its signature Prime Seats with space for two. The aircraft also consumes just over half a gallon of fuel per passenger per 160 miles. By next spring, Condor expects that its entire long-haul fleet will consist of next-generation A330neo aircraft with its eye-catching striped branding. In spring 2022, Condor unveiled its new brand identity of stripes in five colors, inspired by parasols, bath towels, and beach chairs.

Condor’s A330neo will accommodate 310 passengers with four Prime Seats, 26 seats in Business Class, 64 seats in Premium Economy Class, and 216 seats in Economy Class. Condor Business Class offers full lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 configuration with direct aisle access for all guests. The seats convert to a bed with a length of 78” and a width of 19”.

Every year, more than nine million guests fly with Condor from the nine largest airports in Germany, Zurich, and Vienna to around 90 destinations in Europe, Africa, and North America. Condor Airlines was established in 1956.

The Miami-Toronto route is one of Porter’s first to the U.S. using its 132-seat, all-economy Embraer E195-E2 aircraft that includes a two-by-two configuration with no middle seats on every flight.

Free WiFi, a selection of premium snacks, and free beer and wine served in glassware are standard for all passengers. Priority check-in, extra legroom seats, premium pre-mixed cocktails, and fresh, healthy meals are also available with the all-inclusive PorterReserve fares or purchased à la carte with PorterClassic fares.

From MIA, American operates flights to more than 85 unique destinations, including more than 45 in Latin America and the Caribbean. With service to more than 70 destinations across the U.S., American will offer the most convenient way for customers to take in all that Miami has to offer or enjoy one-stop access to the largest network of destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean of any U.S. airline.

Starting Feb. 3, American will become the only U.S. carrier flying nonstop from MIA to Governor’s Harbour, Bahamas (GHB). Service will operate twice weekly on Embraer E175 aircraft, complementing the airline’s winter schedule for the Bahamas that will include up to 14 daily departures to six destinations.

Additionally, the airline will expand its winter schedule from MIA to Latin America and the Caribbean, now including more than 140 peak-day departures to more than 70 destinations, including Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR); Cartagena, Colombia (CTG); and Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS).

This winter, American will offer the most convenient nonstop access to MIA with service from seven new domestic destinations. The new domestic destinations include year-round daily service to Portland, Oregon (PDX) and Sacramento, California (SMF); as well as seasonal weekly service to Buffalo, New York (BUF), Cedar Rapids, Iowa (CID); Lexington, Kentucky (LEX); Wichita, Kansas (ICT) and Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM).

Norse Atlantic’s latest announcement will create the first nonstop service between Miami and Berlin since 2017 and the second nonstop option between MIA and Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport. Norse Atlantic will enter the Miami market for the first time on September 18 with four weekly flights to both London (Gatwick) and Oslo – two other destinations with no current nonstop service from MIA. Customers traveling on Norse Atlantic’s Fort Lauderdale routes after September 17 will be rebooked to its new Miami service or be offered a full refund.

The company's first flight took off from Oslo to New York on June 14, 2022.

Alaska Airlines will serve the new East Coast-West Coast route with daily flights year-round beginning November 17, just before the busy Thanksgiving and winter holiday travel season. Last June, Alaska Airlines resumed daily Seattle-Miami flights after a 10-year hiatus, serving the route with Boeing 737-9 aircraft that seat 178 passengers.

The Miami-Portland route news comes one day after American Airlines announced that this winter it will add a second daily flight from MIA to three popular Caribbean destinations: Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago (POS); Santiago, Dominican Republic (STI); and Tortola, British Virgin Islands (EIS). American wasted no time in deciding to expand the Miami-Tortola service, which it just launched on June 1 - making MIA the only U.S. airport to offer nonstop service to the British Virgin Islands for the first time in four decades.

MIA had two other major service announcements in the first half of 2023. On May 31, low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways announced that it will begin its first-ever service from Miami to London (Gatwick) and Oslo and relocate all of its South Florida flights to MIA on September 18. On March 28, Volaris El Salvador - a low-cost subsidiary of Mexican airline Volaris based in San Salvador and a flag carrier for El Salvador - launched three weekly flights between San Salvador and Miami.

With the departure of American Airlines flight 3989, MIA became the only U.S. airport to offer nonstop service to the British Virgin Islands for the first time in four decades. The three-hour flight, which eliminates the need for connecting flights, will operate through the summer and then resume in November.

Tortola also became the 43^rd nonstop Caribbean route at MIA, the leading U.S. airport for flights to Latin America and the Caribbean. MIA enters the busy summer travel season with year-to-date passenger traffic up nearly three percent over its record-breaking year in 2022 when the airport served 50.7 million travelers.

LATAM Group is the first approved operator within MIA’s FTZ magnet site, which allows airport tenants to import materials that can then be manufactured, repaired, stored, and/or re-distributed anywhere on MIA property, with the federal tariffs on those materials deferred, reduced, or eliminated - providing valuable time and cost savings.

Companies within an FTZ are able to defer paying duties until the products exit the site, reduce duties on combined finished products instead of on each individual product, and eliminate duties on products being imported to the site and then re-exported. Companies handling high-traffic commodities at MIA such as pharmaceuticals, electronics, textiles, auto parts, aircraft parts, avionics, machinery equipment, consumer goods, and perishables are ideal operators for MIA’s FTZ magnet site.

MIA continues to rank as the busiest airport in the U.S. and the ninth busiest in the world for international freight. In 2022, MIA matched its record of 2.7 million tons of freight set in 2021, by handling 2.2 million tons of international freight and 500,000 tons of domestic shipments.

The MIA FTZ magnet site, approved by the U.S. Department of Commerce before the pandemic, is an expansion of Miami-Dade County’s existing FTZ 281 granted to PortMiami. To become an FTZ operator, MIA tenants must complete an application with PortMiami and then receive approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection – an expedited process that takes approximately 30 days.

Volaris El Salvador is a low-cost subsidiary of Mexican airline Volaris based in San Salvador and a flag carrier for El Salvador. The San Salvador-Miami route is also served by American Airlines and Avianca. More than 260,000 passengers traveled between MIA and El Salvador in 2022. Volaris El Salvador’s Miami launch made it MIA’s 100^th airline partner and 11^th low-cost carrier. MIA is now home to 57 passenger airlines and 43 all-cargo carriers.

Officials from Miami-Dade County and Air Canada celebrated the route launch with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments for the inaugural passengers. Air Canada is operating the new service with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft that seat 169 total passengers.

Vancouver joins Montreal and Toronto as MIA’s third Canadian nonstop destination and now provides MIA travelers with a quick one-stop connection to long-range destinations like Australia, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. Booking data shows Vancouver generated 132,000 connecting passengers to the South Florida area in 2019. Additionally, Canada was MIA’s 8^th-busiest international market before the pandemic, with more than 860,000 passengers annually.

The new Vancouver route brings the total number of nonstop destinations served at MIA to 176, which is nine more than the 167 routes at the airport in December 2019 during its previous record year for passenger traffic. MIA has already matched its 2019 passenger total with 46 million travelers through November, putting it on pace for a new record of 50 million passengers in 2022. 

French bee launched the Miami route with three weekly flights but plans to increase its frequency to four times per week in April 2023. The French airline will operate the Miami service with Airbus A350-900 aircraft that seat a total of 411 passengers in a configuration of 376 seats in economy class and 35 seats in premium class.  

The MIA launch makes Miami the airline’s first route in the southeast U.S., fourth route in the U.S., and eighth route worldwide. Founded in 2016, French bee is now the 11^th low-cost carrier at MIA, joining Frontier Airlines, GOL, JetBlue Airways, SKY Airline Peru, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sunwing, Viva Air, Volaris, and WestJet.

In addition to Paris-Orly, passengers can fly to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport from MIA with American Airlines and Air France. Before the pandemic, nearly half a million travelers flew between France and MIA annually.

The flurry of new air service will continue on December 13, when Dominican airline Sky High launches Miami service with four weekly flights to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Sky High will operate the Santo Domingo-Miami service with Embraer E190 aircraft seating 97 passengers. Miami will be the first U.S. route and 15^th overall for the airline, which was founded in 2012. At one million travelers in 2019, the Dominican Republic was MIA’s 6^th busiest international market pre-pandemic and continues to be one of the airport’s most-served destinations, with Sky High becoming the sixth passenger airline flying between the country and MIA.

On December 15, French low-cost carrier French bee will enter the South Florida market and become the only airline with nonstop service between Paris-Orly Airport and MIA when it begins three weekly flights. Miami will be the 3^rd U.S. route and 7^th route worldwide for French bee, which began operating in 2016. In addition to Paris-Orly, passengers can fly to Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport from MIA with American Airlines and Air France. French bee will also become the 11^th low-cost carrier at MIA, joining Frontier Airlines, GOL, JetBlue Airways, SKY Airline Peru, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sunwing, Viva Air, Volaris, and WestJet.

On December 17, Brazilian low-cost carrier GOL will bring Manaus service back to MIA with two weekly flights, giving MIA a total of five nonstop destinations in Brazil: Brasilia; Fortaleza; Manaus; Rio de Janeiro; and Sao Paulo. On the same day, Air Canada will launch nonstop Miami-Vancouver service three times a week, giving MIA its longest North American route and its largest unserved North American market. Vancouver will also join Montreal and Toronto as MIA’s third Canadian destination and provide another connection point to long-range destinations like Australia and New Zealand.

The new routes will bring the total number of nonstop destinations served at MIA to 176, which is nine more than the 167 routes the airport served in December 2019 during its previous record year for passenger traffic. MIA has already matched its 2019 passenger total with 46 million travelers through November, putting it on pace for a new record of 50 million passengers in 2022.  

Dublin is MIA’s only pre-clearance trans-Atlantic destination, allowing Aer Lingus passengers to receive U.S. Customs and Border Protection clearance before they leave Ireland and arrive in Miami as domestic passengers. Dublin is also now MIA’s 16^th nonstop European route.

Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland, founded in 1936. In summer 2022, Aer Lingus operated over 100 routes, flying to over 71 direct routes and to 62 destinations from Ireland to the UK and Europe. The airline operates 16 direct routes from Ireland to North America and a further three transatlantic routes direct from Manchester UK to North America and the Caribbean. Aer Lingus is a 4-star airline, awarded by Skytrax, the international air transport rating organization. 

In addition to delivering shipments of water to the southwest Florida area, American Airlines added reduced, last-minute fares for cities impacted by Hurricane Ian. American also waived checked bag fees for up to two checked bags to/from certain affected airports, lifted limits on the number of carry-on pets allowed in the cabin to/from all affected airports, and waived fees for carry-on pets to/from all affected airports.

Delta Airlines this month increased its contribution to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Ian relief efforts to $500,000, complementing the donations of customers made through Delta's customer microsite.

Southwest Airlines is providing cash and in-kind support totaling more than $225,000 to help with the recovery efforts in affected areas and will continue to assess and consider additional requests. The following organizations will receive monetary or round-trip travel donations from Southwest to support their needs: American Red Cross; Florida Disaster Fund; All Faiths Food Bank; Harry Chapin Food Bank; Team Rubicon; Airlink; All Hands and Hearts.

Spirit Airlines recently donated to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts for Hurricane Ian. The Spirit Charitable Foundation also partnered with Operation Airdrop, a volunteer organization that provides airborne aid and relief to those impacted by natural disasters.
