During two-hour sessions near gate D37, renowned Miami artist and illustrator Brian Reedy and Haitian-born Miami artist Annick Duvivier demonstrated how they bring their dynamic works to life and then got visitors into the act by teaching them how to create their own works of art so they could take a memento of Miami’s art culture home with them.

On July 21, Duvivier provided passengers with magazine clippings of images from across America’s 50 states and guided them to design photo collages that blended their own stories, travels, and chosen imagery into a quick art project. Known for creating vibrant, uplifting art that elevates positive energy, Duvivier invited participants to see how she weaves varied visual elements into her unique style.

The following day, Reedy hosted a hands-on block printing session featuring historic images from Miami-Dade County. Reedy is known worldwide for his distinctive ink-block prints on wood, influenced by traditional Ukiyo-e, Japanese, and European Medieval block prints.

The interplay of shifting daylight and reflection animates the installation throughout the day, softly illuminating the layered silhouettes, enhancing their sense of gentle drift, and evoking the movement of ocean life. The reef is presented not as a static place, but as an ecosystem in perpetual motion, passage, and change. This rhythmic choreography parallels the global travel journey and the resilience of coral ecosystems, both of which adapt and regenerate within their environments.

The exhibition’s title, Heliotropic Seekers, references heliotropism - the movement of plants toward sunlight - and suggests a broader connection between natural phenomena and human experience. “Seekers” evokes a sense of quest and journey, reflecting both travelers searching for new horizons and organisms striving toward light and sustenance. The installation emphasizes interconnectedness, growth, and the rhythmic patterns of life, paralleling the journeys of individuals and natural habitats.

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, and living and working in Miami, Beatriz Chachamovits explores the beauty and fragility of marine ecosystems through ceramic sculptures, drawings, and installations that merge natural history with speculative mythologies. By highlighting the intricate forms of underwater life, she invites deeper reflection on our impact and responsibility toward ocean conservation. She is the author and illustrator of the book “The little handbook of marine fishes and other aquatic marvels” (“Pequeno manual de peixe marinhos e outras maravilhas aquáticas”), published by Companhia das Letrinhas in São Paulo, Brazil, in 2018.

​Her selected solo exhibitions include “Into the Great Dying: Waters We Share” at Faena Art Project Room in Miami, Florida (2022), “Into the Great Dying: Roles We Play” at the Museum of Contemporary Art of North Miami, Florida (2023), and “ Meet Me in the Clearing Between the Waves” an early career survey at Miami Design District in Miami, Florida (2024). Selected group exhibitions include the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, “Coral Expedition: 1865 - 2018” (2018), the Art and Cultural Center of Hollywood, Florida, “C[h]oral Stories and Collective Actions” (2022), and The Baker Museum, Naples, “Entangled in the Mangroves” (2025).

​Chachamovits has received fellowships to attend residencies at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and Penland School of Craft. She is the recipient of Oolite Arts’ The Ellies Awards (2023) and was commissioned by the City of Miami Beach for the Elevate Española public art project (2023). Her work has been featured in Vogue Magazine’s “Earth and Us” section, Arte Al Día, and the National Geographic Education platform as part of an AAAS grant to teach fifth graders about women in marine science. She is currently a resident artist at The Bakehouse Art Complex in Wynwood, Miami.

Immediately after the flag-raising, Miami-Dade Aviation and Seaport Committee Chair Commissioner Danielle Cohen Higgins led a dedication ceremony for the Renaissance of Towers — a 20‑foot‑tall, three‑ton stainless steel sculpture by international artist Helidon Xhixha. Originally completed in 2007, the monument was installed this week at MIA’s Central Boulevard entrance.

The $400,000 sculpture, previously showcased in cultural hubs including Venice, Florence, Berlin, Como, and Milan, reflects imagery of the American flag and draws inspiration from New York City’s Twin Towers as a tribute to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. Now positioned along a roadway traveled by more than 47,000 drivers daily, the monument was donated to Miami-Dade County through a partnership between Xhixha, Humberto Ortiz of AUM Construction, and Carlos and Martin Melo of the Melo Group, a Miami-based real estate developer.

Officials from Miami-Dade County and PS, the private luxury terminal company reimagining commercial air travel, debuted the PS MIA location today inside the former Pan American Airways headquarters at Miami International Airport. The new terminal, which enables travelers to bypass the traditional airport experience through dedicated private facilities, streamlined security, and highly personalized end-to-end travel services, marks PS’ first location in Florida and fourth outpost worldwide, following the Dallas-Fort Worth opening earlier this month.

Thoughtfully reimagining the landmark 1960s structure, the 34,000 square-foot space preserves elements of Pan Am’s original architecture and interiors while introducing a curated suite of elevated amenities that redefine the travel experience from arrival to departure. The terminal features five Private Suites, The Salon - an elevated social lounge designed for solo and business travelers - and a central open-air courtyard, complemented by spa treatments available upon request. These elements shape two distinct guest experiences: The Salon, an elevated social lounge suited to solo and business travelers, and The Private Suite, which offers fully private, residential-style accommodations designed for discretion and comfort.

Launching later this year, PS Direct will further extend this offering with integrated door-to-door transfers, transporting guests between aircraft and home or hotel. Across every touchpoint, the experience is defined by thoughtful precision, from private BMW chauffeur transfers and chef-prepared dining to discreet coordination led by PS’ Control Room across security, airlines, and agency partners, ensuring a smooth, secure, and highly controlled journey.

PS MIA brings together RJ Heisenbottle Architects and interior designer Cliff Fong to reimagine the iconic property. The design preserves its defining mid-century Brutalist character, recognized as a Miami-Dade County Historic Site, while layering in furnishings and details that subtly reference the Pan Am era. The result is a seamless blend of heritage and modern luxury, offering travelers a sophisticated retreat. The building's iconic features, including original Pan Am airline insignias, gold paneling, and original reflecting pools, have been carefully restored. The design draws inspiration from Miami’s tropical glamour through terrazzo, marble, smoked glass, and bold patterns. Blending these elements with PS’ signature hospitality, the new terminal offers a refined yet vibrant environment for travelers.

The newest location continues PS’ commitment to showcasing local artists and brands within its terminals. For this project, PS worked with Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Art in Public Places, an award-winning public art commissioning program, to commission Nina Surel - Miami-based Argentinian artist and founder of The Collective 62, Miami’s first all-female art collective - to create integrated, artist designed reflecting pools at PS MIA. The art unfolds throughout the terminal, from a stoneware bas-relief mural of interlocking ceramic tiles to a mosaicked pool, each reflecting the city’s natural landscape and layered cultural influences.

With further art curation by Creative Art Partners, The PS Miami art collection is centered around light and a playful mix of materials with works that feel vibrant and expressive. There are subtle moments throughout, brought in through color, pattern, and arrangement, drawing from the building’s history as the original Pan Am headquarters. Softer pieces are balanced with bolder works, keeping the collection dynamic. It has an easy, vibrant energy that mirrors the rhythm and visual language of Miami itself. Artists include Shaina McCoy, Neill Wright, Jaakko Pallasvuo, Holly Lowen, and others; the art on display consists of mixed media pieces as well as paintings.

Ahead of Miami-Dade County’s first FIFA 2026 World Cup match, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava unveiled a series of new beautification projects and passenger experience upgrades at Miami International Airport during a nighttime ceremony on June 12. The event showcased MIA’s first-ever up-lighting installations, facility improvements across key terminal areas, large-scale baggage claim murals created in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), and a refreshed MIA brand identity.

Community partners joined Mayor Levine Cava for the ceremony, which concluded with the debut of MIA’s updated logo - a collaborative effort between MIA, the GMCVB, and the County’s Communications, Information, and Technology Department symbolizing the airport’s renewed commitment to exceptional customer service.

These enhancements are among the latest Forward Flight-inspired improvements at MIA as the airport prepares for the FIFA 2026 World Cup and beyond. The Forward Flight Team - an advisory group of local industry experts convened by the Mayor in January - continues to help streamline airport operations and elevate the overall passenger experience.

Miami International Airport celebrated the opening day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with two performances for travelers inside Concourse D by Brazilian & Latin Sounds Co., featuring electrifying Samba dancers, high-energy Batucada drummers, and gravity-defying Capoeira acrobats. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was in attendance for the first performance.

MIA is hosting fan zones at gate E5 and in the Concourse H-J connector post-security, where all games will be shown on large-screen monitors, while many airport restaurants will air the games live as well. Soccer-themed art exhibitions are also on view in MIA’s North and South terminals to get travelers into the World Cup spirit.

As the gateway of the Americas and the second-busiest U.S. airport for international passengers, MIA will serve millions of travelers during the World Cup. In addition to welcoming visitors for seven matches in Miami-Dade County, MIA will be a busy connector airport for travelers en route to other host cities across North America.

On view through July 25, the acclaimed 107-minute digital video presents an intimate portrait of Beckham, filmed in a single, unbroken take as he rests after a Real Madrid FC training session in 2004. Departing from the familiar, high-energy images of Beckham on the football field or in the media spotlight, and lit simply from a single light source, the work draws inspiration from both Michelangelo’s classic Italian Renaissance sculpture David (1501-1504) and Andy Warhol’s underground film “Sleep” (1964), inviting viewers to reflect on themes of fame, vulnerability, and humanity. The screening offers travelers and art enthusiasts a rare opportunity to engage with contemplative but profound artwork in a unique public setting.

Working across photography, film, and video, Taylor-Johnson’s work investigates the complexities of human emotion and identity. Best known for directing major feature films, including “Nowhere Boy”, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, and most recently “Back to Black”, her projects have been exhibited internationally, including at Tate Modern, Guggenheim Museum, and the Venice Biennale. Commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery in London, “David” exemplifies Taylor-Johnson’s innovative practice, which often explores the boundaries between public and private, celebrity and anonymity.

“Filming him while he was asleep produces a different view from the many familiar, public images,” Taylor-Johnson notes. “This approach transforms the international superstar into a subject of quiet reverence, offering audiences a rare, personal glimpse beyond the public persona.”

Born in London, UK, Taylor-Johnson studied sculpture at Goldsmiths College (London), alongside a generation of British artists who came to prominence in the 1990s. After showing at the Venice Biennale (1997) and being nominated for the Turner Prize (1998), Taylor-Johnson gained international acclaim with solo exhibitions at major museums across Europe. Encouraged by filmmaker Anthony Minghella, she directed the Palme d’Or-nominated short “Love You More” (2008) and her feature debut “Nowhere Boy” (2009), followed by ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ (2015), “A Million Little Pieces” (2018), and “Back to Black” (2024). While her films have won BAFTA nominations and awards, her studio practice has remained constant, recently exhibiting self-portraits in Rome that explore the tension between body and mind. Through her embrace of diverse creative modalities, Taylor-Johnson has continued to address the psychic friction of selfhood, drawing out the tragedies and joys that arise when the inner self collides with the outside world.

Beyond the Pitch invites travelers, soccer enthusiasts, and art lovers alike to experience Miami’s dynamic art scene while sharing in the anticipation, energy, and excitement of the World Cup.

In further celebration of the World Cup, MIA is presenting GOOOAL! Kicking Off Creativity: Miami's FIFA World Cup Celebration, an exhibition of artwork created by Miami-Dade County students in partnership with Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Division of Life Skills & Special Projects. The exhibition is on display through October 14 in The Children’s Gallery, located post-security in the Concourse D–E connector.

To celebrate the 10^th anniversary of the official naming of Little Haiti in Miami-Dade County and the last week of Haitian Heritage Month, Miami International Airport hosted a performance by the Nancy St. Léger NSL Dance Ensemble, a collective dedicated to preserving authentic Haitian folkloric dance. Traditional Haitian refreshments were also served to attendees in MIA’s Central Terminal area.

Miami International Airport, in partnership with the Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board, celebrated Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with two sets of energetic performances in the MIA terminal featuring: Lion dancing by the Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Association; tae kwon do demonstrations by World Class Martial Arts Miami; and Turkish choir performances by the Florida Turkish American Association (FTAA) Chorus.  

MIA welcomes 91% of all the flower imports by air to the U.S., and its busiest season is the month before Mother’s Day – even busier than the Valentine’s Day season. Flower imports continue to be MIA’s largest imported product, with preliminary figures showing that the cargo gateway received 394,181 U.S. tons of flower imports valued at $1.8 billion in 2025.

Flower imports are one of the biggest reasons why MIA became the busiest airport in the U.S. and third busiest in the world for total freight in 2025, according to the latest rankings by Airports Council International.

Travelers and airport employees had the opportunity to interact with the dogs, learn about the adoption process, and engage directly with Miami-Dade County Animal Services staff, while also gaining a deeper understanding of the resources and services available to support pet owners throughout the County. 

The event proved highly successful, resulting in the adoption of six cats and five dogs, and has sparked discussions about making this initiative a recurring offering at the airport.

By leveraging MIA’s global platform and ASD’s mission-driven work, the partnership created a dynamic and impactful experience that extended beyond traditional adoption settings. The event underscored Miami-Dade County’s commitment to animal welfare, public engagement, and interdepartmental collaboration that enhances services for residents and visitors alike.

Thanks to the latest Live at MIA experience, passengers with young children waiting for flights near MIA’s Books with an Altitude lending library at gate H5 received a hands-on art experience when they got to color pages from Passe’s book Ocean Heroes: Saving the Heart of the Sea and learn about protecting the environment in the process. Participants also heard readings from the book by Passe and Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who visited MIA on Earth Day.

This year, the Live at MIA LIVE ARTS program has already hosted live music, line dancing, and theater performances in the global gateway’s terminal to entertain and delight travelers.

In partnership with the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art of the African Diaspora (Miami MoCAAD), the exhibition features vinyl replicas of three permanent murals located at historic Overtown landmarks. The murals allow viewers to explore the rich tapestry of Historic Overtown – which celebrates its 130-year anniversary this year - through visual art, oral histories, augmented reality, and QR codes that link to articles and interviews by Black Miami historians.  

OVERtown: Our Family Tree, by Anthony “Mojo” Reed II, is at the law office building constructed and owned by Judge Lawson E. Thomas, an early civil rights activist and Miami-Dade County’s first Black judge who presided over the nation’s only racially segregated court system.

Reginald O’Neal’s International Longshoreman Association Local 1416, located at the Local 1416 Union Hall, commemorates the longshoremen’s pivotal role in advancing and advocating for Miami’s Black community and providing economic ladders to the middle class.  

Stefan Smith’s Overtown Pitch: Game Changers at the historic Carver Hotel site, featuring images of soccer superstars Kylian Mbappe and Crystal Dunn, celebrates soccer through an innovative blend of figurative and abstract art and technology. QR codes in Smith’s mural invite viewers to engage with stories of Black soccer players who have left their mark on the sport and to participate in a penalty-kick shootout game.

By bringing recreations of permanent Overtown murals into an accessible public space, Miami MoCAAD aims to expand access and create new ways for residents, families, and youth across Miami-Dade County, as well as national and international visitors, to experience Miami's cultural heritage while reimagining spaces where art, history, technology, and community intersect. As the nation marks its semi-quincentennial, this exhibition pays tribute to the lasting influence of the African Diaspora in Overtown and beyond, inspiring a more inclusive vision of our past, present, and future.

Miami MoCAAD is dedicated to harnessing innovation to showcase contemporary visual arts production of the Global African Diaspora, leveraging traditional and technology-infused platforms.  The museum presents art through online virtual reality exhibitions, interactive murals with augmented reality accessible on-site in the community and on phones via the website, and traditional onsite exhibitions through collaborations.

In celebration of America’s 250^th anniversary this year, Miami International Airport continued its MIA LIVE ARTS performance series – which honors the rich tapestry of American music and culture – by entertaining passengers with two performances by a quartet from Jazz Music in Action (JAZZMIA).

 JAZZMIA is dedicated to presenting world-class jazz – “America’s original art form” - throughout Miami-Dade County. JAZZMIA’s weekly series and other events are places for Miami’s jazz community, fans, and musicians to come together and enjoy live jazz in exceptional settings, with a strong sense of camaraderie and fun.

For America250, the MIA LIVE ARTS series hosts performances at MIA in a variety of musical styles, including country, jazz, disco, and rock. Each performance will showcase the unique rhythms and traditions that define America. From the infectious beats of line dancing to the soulful improvisations of jazz ensembles, every performance aims to spark celebration and pride. The first MIA LIVE ARTS performance was a high-energy line dance performance by Southside Stampede on March 12.

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day today, Miami International Airport (MIA), Delta Air Lines, and LATAM Airlines hosted the airport’s latest MIA Airport Instruction and Readiness (MIAair) tour for more than 50 children with disabilities from local schools, along with their parents, teachers, and guardians. The tour allowed participants to rehearse the air travel experience from start to finish, all the way to an airplane seat, in a safe and controlled environment.

The children practiced entering the airport, getting boarding passes, going through security, and boarding a LATAM Airlines plane with the airline’s gate agents and flight crew. The program also served as a learning experience for airline and airport workers at MIA. The goal of the MIAair program is for anyone, regardless of their disability, to experience the magic and wonder of flight. Since launching the MIAair tours in 2015, in partnership with the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), MIA has now hosted tours for nearly 400 children with disabilities

Miami International Airport treated passengers and employees to a Miami Music Week experience with a three-hour live set by rising DJ and producer Amal Nemer. Hundreds of travelers got in the groove as they connected through the airport.

Nemer has quickly become one of Miami’s most exciting exports since launching her music career there in 2020. Despite only truly emerging in 2021, Amal has already released music on labels including Moon Harbour, Glasgow Underground, Nervous Records, Made in Miami, and Farris Wheel, and found her way into the top 100 of Beatport with instant hits such as ‘Shot Por Mi’, ‘A Good Song’, and ‘Feelings.’

Now open through August in MIA’s Concourse J Mezzanine Gallery on the 4^th floor, the exhibit highlights Curtiss' transformative role and impact on the region and the flourishing aviation industry that emerged during the cities’ land boom of the 1920s. Visitors can navigate through six thematic displays that weave together the narrative of Curtiss' innovative spirit and influence through a collection of loaned original artifacts, photographs, and scaled models that document Curtiss and the communities he was involved in founding; his early life in South Florida; and his business ventures such as flight schools, travel trailers, and a movie studio.

Curated by aviation historian Richard Leisenring, Miami Springs historian Ken Wilde, and Opa-locka Preservation Association Founder Alex Van Mecl, the exhibition also features a scaled model of the Glenn Curtiss and June Bug Legacy Memorial monument, an upcoming landmark in Miami Springs by local artist Natalie Plasencia. The monument will be unveiled this August in conjunction with Miami Springs' centennial anniversary on August 23, to honor Curtiss’ innovation, courage, and imagination.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Commissioner Natalie Milian-Orbis for District 6, which includes Miami International Airport, County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez, and other local government leaders gathered at MIA to unveil a new wall mural honoring pioneering aviator and land developer Glenn Curtiss, who founded the cities of Hialeah, Miami Springs, and Opa-locka – each currently celebrating centennial anniversaries. 

In partnership with the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and other local cultural organizations, From Wings to Cities: The Vision of Glenn Curtiss, is now on display through April 1, 2026, at MIA’s Connecting Communities Wall on the arrivals level near door 11. The mural features historic images and milestones of each city over the past 100 years.

Long before Miami-Dade County became a global gateway, Curtiss imagined communities built around innovation, mobility, and modern living - where aviation would redefine how people connected to place and to one another. Working with fellow pioneers, Curtiss played a defining role in founding Hialeah in 1925 and Miami Springs and Opa-locka in 1926.

Each reflects a different expression of his ambition and belief in planned communities designed for the future. Hialeah, envisioned as “The City of Progress,” has grown into a dynamic center of industry and culture, shaped in large part by its immigrant community. Opa-locka captured the imagination through its Moorish Revival style and Arabian Nights–inspired identity, making it one of the most distinctively planned cities in the nation. Miami Springs emerged as a carefully designed residential oasis, known for its Pueblo Revival architecture and human-scale charm.

During an illustrious career spanning 23 years as Third World’s principal drummer and percussionist, Willie Stewart co-produced 13 albums, five of which received Grammy nominations. He has received world acclaim as the recipient of the NAACP Image Award, the Diamond Award, and the United Nations Peace Medal. Willie has teamed with composers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, recorded and performed live with Stevie Wonder, Eddy Grant, Carlos Santana, and Bob Marley, and shared billing with Quincy Jones, U2, and The Police.

TSA urges all airline travelers to complete the following three steps in advance of any air travel on or after Feb 1.

As winter storm disruptions continued to impact air travel nationwide, MIA offered passengers a thoughtful way to unwind at the lending library experience near gate H5 in partnership with Miami Dade College, Miami Book Fair, and the Miami-Dade Public Library System.  

The activation coincided with Library Shelfie Day and featured a visit from one of MIA’s Miami Hound Machine therapy pets, Avi the poodle, who was accompanied by her owner, an MIA Volunteer Ambassador. Travelers of all ages snapped a “shelfie” with Avi, interacted with her, and enjoyed complimentary books or reading materials while they waited for their flights. 

With thousands of flights canceled across the country due to Winter Storm Fern, MIA has served as a critical support hub for airline partners repositioning aircraft and for passengers connecting to other destinations. In addition to operational support, the airport assisted passengers during extended wait times by providing additional support staff and a free overnight sleeping area. 

MIA’s Books with an Altitude library creates a calm, welcoming space for travelers to browse, read, and relax - reflecting the County’s commitment to community partnerships, innovation, and customer service, even during periods of significant travel disruption.

MIA continues to work closely with its airlines and federal partners to manage the impacts of Winter Storm Fern while identifying creative, passenger-friendly ways to improve the terminal experience during challenging travel periods. Passengers are encouraged to check their flight status directly with their airline before coming to the airport and to allow extra time for travel during ongoing weather impacts.

The team arrived to a water cannon salute from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and cheers from enthusiastic MIA fans. As the players stepped off the plane, MIA team members lined the arrival area, holding “1-0” signs, which energized the Canes and reminded them that all of Miami-Dade is behind them.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava personally greeted the team to celebrate their hard work, determination, and the pride they bring to the community.

MIA now looks forward to welcoming visitors from across the nation for the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 19, when the Canes will play the Indiana Hoosiers in Miami.

The Booking.com for Business ranking comes just two months after J.D. Power named MIA the most-improved mega airport in North America for customer satisfaction.

Among the study’s six categories, MIA ranked highest among all U.S. airports for cars available for hire with 563 vehicles, providing “flexible options for reaching the city center for meetings or onward destinations.”

MIA also earned praise in the study for providing 196 nonstop routes, 38% of which are business-class routes, “offering business travel passengers more flexibility and options to rebook flights if they need to, due to any travel disruption or last-minute schedule changes.”

MIA Galleries is now more accessible for both on-site and off-site visits via the online guide’s photo, audio, and video content and wayfinding maps, which provide updates on current exhibitions and artwork on display, upcoming artist demonstrations, performances, and cultural events, past exhibitions, and selections from Miami-Dade County’s Art in Public Places collection at MIA. The MIA Galleries guide also features best-in-class accessibility options, including screen reader support, zoom and font size adjustments, transcripts, subtitles, alternative text, and multilingual support via Google Translate.

The children practiced entering the airport, getting boarding passes, going through security, and boarding a LATAM Airlines plane with the airline’s gate agents and flight crew. The program also served as a learning experience for airline and airport workers at MIA. The goal of the MIAair program is for anyone, regardless of their disability, to experience the magic and wonder of flight. Since launching the MIAair tours in 2015, in partnership with the UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), MIA has now hosted tours for nearly 400 children with disabilities.

On view through April 5, 2026, at MIA’s CameraWorks gallery at gates D22 and D25, the exhibition features nine previously unexhibited black-and-white images of plant life, highlighting the intricate structures, extraordinary details, and stunning beauty of nature. Characterized by a profound contemplation and admiration of nature’s innermost details, Closer aims to encourage hurried travelers to pause and appreciate the beauty that inspired the artist.  

Issa-Khan was born in Tehran and raised across Iran, Europe, and the United States. In 1999, she relocated to South Florida, where she began to focus on capturing the beauty of nature, specifically flowers, seashells, and coral. Her nature photography has been exhibited in major cities, including New York, London, and Paris, and featured in publications like Veranda and Luxe. A retrospective book of her work, IRAN ISSA-KHAN Photographs, was published in 2011, with a foreword by longtime friend Zaha Hadid.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Issa-Khan captured iconic figures such as Paulina Porizkova, Andie MacDowell, and Christy Turlington, with her work featured in renowned publications like Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Her impressive client list includes celebrities, politicians, and high-profile figures, such as Nancy Reagan, the Ferragamo and Fendi families, Diane von Furstenberg, Carolina Herrera, and Paloma Picasso, with whom she shot ads and covers for 25 years.

CameraWorks is a space dedicated to exhibitions of fine art photography, including mixed-media photography and photo-based works by emerging and established artists based in South Florida. MIA Galleries, established in 1996, is the arts and exhibitions program at MIA, managed by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department's Division of Fine Arts and Cultural Affairs. Our mission is to enhance the travel environment by presenting exhibitions and showcasing works that celebrate the rich culture, diverse landscape, and artistic resources of the local community. MIA Galleries aims to elevate the passenger experience by curating a visually stimulating atmosphere that is contemporary, thought-provoking, and reflective of the cultural depth and creativity of the South Florida region.

Curious Geometries showcases a series of textile works, including stretched compositions and free-form art quilts. The pieces explore the irregular, organic, and often playful relationships between geometry and gesture, drawing inspiration from Miami's diverse and layered ecologies. The exhibition serves as a reflective space for travelers, where handmade patterns echo aerial views, fibers mimic paint, and the boundaries between craft and fine art quietly unravel. It invites viewers to enter a world where pattern, material, and memory collide, inspiring contemplation and curiosity.

Jestrow employs improvisational dyeing and piecing techniques that pay homage to the history of quilting while beautifully subverting its traditional expectations. She imbues each piece with personal and collective narratives. For example, in Spiderweb 3 – MIA (2025), the artist draws inspiration from the spiderweb quilt pattern and incorporates sourced materials collected from various locations, including MIA’s Interior Design section. 

The artist constructs her textile-based artwork through the meticulous stitching of elongated fabric strips and numerous triangular shapes, employing repetition, precision, and improvisation as foundational principles. Jestrow’s artistic journey is rooted in a deep respect for American folk-art quilts and an admiration for geometric abstraction prevalent in the mid-to-late twentieth century. Inspiration is drawn from visionaries such as the Gee's Bend quilters, Anni Albers, Rosie Lee Tompkins, and Gego, whose works seamlessly connect the realms of craft and abstraction.

Jestrow is an Italian American textile artist who grew up in Queens, NY, and now lives and works in Miami. Her artistic journey began in her formative years, as she learned sewing and crocheting from her mother, igniting a passion that would become a lifelong force. This connection to textiles is the bedrock of her artistic practice, stretching and challenging quilt forms and structures while considering the activist values that shaped historic quilt-making traditions. Relocating to Miami allowed Jestrow to delve into quilting, becoming a source of solace and creative expression. In her Miami home studio, the sewing machine, a symbol of comfort and creativity, continues to take center stage.

Public and private collections include the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Miami International Airport, MIA Galleries. Public art commissions include The Shelborne by Proper Hotels. Jestrow has been awarded artist residencies at The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation (2024), The Jentel Foundation (2022), and National Park Service Artist in Residence in the Everglades (AIRIE) (2014). Awarded grants include the South Florida Cultural Consortium (SFCC, 2023), Miami Individual Artists (MIA) Grant (2022 - 2025), The Ellies, Miami’s Visual Arts Awards, Oolite Arts (2021), and the Artist Access Grant, Miami-Dade County and FUNdarte (2021 - 2024).

Miami International Airport is North America’s most-improved mega airport in customer satisfaction, after its overall score jumped 24 points in J.D. Power’s 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study^SM. MIA’s ranking surged from 10^th to 8^th place among the busiest airports in the study, based on 30,439 completed surveys from U.S. or Canadian residents who traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport from July 2024 through July 2025.

The J.D. Power study measures overall traveler satisfaction by examining seven core dimensions (in order of importance): ease of travel through airport; level of trust with airport; terminal facilities; airport staff; departure/to airport experience; food, beverage, and retail; and arrival/from airport experience. MIA surged in the customer satisfaction study while also serving 3.5 million more travelers in 2025 than the year before, for a new annual record of nearly 56 million passengers and the airport’s third-consecutive record-breaking year.

Over the last five years, MIA has ranked among the 10 best mega airports in the study, including the #1 overall ranking in 2021 and 4^th place in 2023. The improved J.D. Power ranking is the latest in a series of accolades MIA has received this year for its customer experience, including its Best Airport for Layovers Award from Global Traveler magazine and ranking in Food & Wine magazine’s annual list of Top 10 U.S. Airports for Food and Drink. 

MIA’s upward trend in customer satisfaction coincides with the ongoing progress of its $9 billion Modernization in Action (M.I.A.) Plan. Among its many recent milestones, MIA reopened its newest pair of renovated moving walkways this month, marking the 23^rd modernization of a moving walkway, elevator, or escalator at MIA this year. Fifteen more conveyance units are on schedule for completion by the end of 2025, putting the airport on track for 38 new and improved units this year to easily set a new annual record for the modernization program. More than 95% of these units are now operational as well — another record for MIA.

In addition to replacing more than 200 escalators, elevators, and moving walkways, the M.I.A. Plan is transforming every touchpoint of the passenger journey over the next five years, including major projects like renovating nearly 200 public restrooms; upgrading 75% of the airport’s passenger boarding bridges; opening the new 2,240-space Ibis garage in December; and completing the new Concourse K in 2029. 

Miami International Airport's MIA Galleries and the Deering Estate’s Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program have joined forces to host The Deering Estate AT MIA: AIR Archive, a screening of four short films highlighting past and present Deering Estate AIRs John William Bailly, Andrés Cabrera-García, Giannina Dwin, and Tony Fernandez. The films, produced by Emmy® award-winning filmmaker Jorge Gonzalez Graupera, are being screened until January 2026 at the airport’s MIAmi (moving images) video wall near gate J7. 

The Deering Estate is a 21st-century house museum, cultural and ecological field station, and historic landmark in southern Miami-Dade County. Its Artist-in-Residence Program supports professional artists from various disciplines by providing them with space and resources to pursue innovative projects and studio work. The program fosters connections among other artists and engagement with the public while interacting with the Estate's historical, cultural, intellectual, natural, and built environments.

Deering Estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, owned by the State of Florida, and managed by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department. It is designated as one of seven Miami-Dade County “Heritage Parks” that play a vital role in our community’s history and environment to provide recreational and cultural experiences.

With the short film series, Graupera – a fellow Deering Estate artist-in-residence - highlights the Estate's resident artists and their creative processes, inspiration, and influences while also celebrating the impact of residency on their work.

Graupera has collaborated extensively with non-profits, museums, and institutions of higher learning. In addition to directing the AIR Archive Series for the Deering Estate, he has spearheaded diverse projects for esteemed organizations, including Florida International University, CMXNR, NPR, The Bass Museum, O, Miami, and numerous others. His film, "John William Bailly: In Situ at the Deering Estate," has been awarded two 2023 Emmy Awards for "Long Form Content" and "Best Audio."  

John William Bailly is a French American artist and professor based in Lyon and Miami. His work examines history and culture, emphasizing the Transatlantic dialogue through large oil paintings and mixed media on paper. Bailly’s works have been exhibited internationally, and his paintings are in the permanent collections of the Frost Museum of Art, Perez Art Museum Miami, the University of Miami’s Lowe Art Museum, and the Zillman Art Museum. He was a studio-based artist-in-residence and a Charles Deering McCormick Art Fellow at Deering Estate from 2019 until 2022. He earned his Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree from Yale University and has been a faculty fellow of the Honors College at Florida International University since 2004.

Andrés Cabrera-García is a Cuban-born artist whose work examines identity, place, and belonging through landscape and the materiality of oil painting. His exhibitions include Adventum Floridana at The Frank C. Ortis Gallery (2025), Circumscribed Landscapes at Deering Estate (2023), and Outside of Cuba in Switzerland (2018). He was a guest artist at the Cleveland Museum of Art (2002) and won third place in the 8th Paint-Me Miami competition (2019). Since 2023, he has been a studio-based artist-in-residence at Deering Estate, where he also leads plein air painting workshops engaging the public with site-based artistic practice.

Giannina Dwin is a South Florida-based artist and recipient of numerous grants and awards, including the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship and the Women in Visual Arts Award. Her work has been featured in national and international exhibitions, with notable solo installations at Fundacion Valdes-Salas in Spain and Project Space in The Art and Culture Center in Hollywood, Florida. She has also curated exhibits like Contemporary Ceramics and Textiles. Dwin completed public art sculptures for the Broward County Cultural Council and the Broward County Main Library in Ft Lauderdale. She specializes in installations, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and performance. She has been an artist-in-residence at Deering Estate since 2025.

Tony Fernandez is a photographer and educator who studied under two renowned artists, Jerry N. Uelsmann and Aaron Siskind. His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and is part of the collections at the George Eastman House and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Born in Cuba and raised in Miami, Fernandez founded the Photography program at the New World School of the Arts in Miami, where he is an adjunct instructor in Photography and Cinematography. He has been an artist-in-residence at Deering Estate since 2024. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and his MFA from the Institute of Design in Chicago, later completing his Ph.D. in education at Michigan State University.

Reedy is known worldwide for his distinctive ink block prints on wood, which are influenced by traditional Ukiyo-e‑Japanese and European Medieval block prints. His imagery has been featured by brands like Hot Topic, Uniqlo, Random House, and Topps, and his designs have appeared on apparel, in movies, on television, and even in Broadway productions such as Hamilton in Australia and The Hollow on Broadway in NYC. His prints have also been showcased at galleries across the globe, from Chicago to Melbourne.

Reedy’s art stems from a lifelong fascination with dinosaurs, the paranormal, and the supernatural. His block prints incorporate elements of fantasy narrative, often inspired by his travels and the architecture of India, Japan, and Thailand.

The new demo series continues on July 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., when Reedy visits MIA’s Concourse E Satellite (gates E20 to E30), which will then be followed by demos with local botanical artist Donna Torres on August 7 at the same time and on August 20 near D37 from 1 to 3 p.m.

PS MIA will restore and redesign the historic former Pan American Airways (Pan Am) headquarters at 4900 N.W. 36^th Street into a private terminal that will include five private suites, two salons with dining options, a central outdoor courtyard, and a day spa with beauty treatments and massages. The Pan Am building has been a Miami-Dade County-designated Historic Site since 2014. PS MIA is dedicated to preserving the building’s iconic mid-century brutalist architecture and will seamlessly integrate finishes and furniture that reference important aspects of the period.

The building's iconic features, such as the Pan Am logos, gold paneling, and original reflecting pools, will be restored. The design takes inspiration from Miami’s lively culture and glamour, incorporating terrazzo, marble, smoked glass, and luxurious patterns reminiscent of Lilly Pulitzer and Marimekko. PS MIA is a collaboration between RJ Heisenbottle Architects, experts in historical restoration, and renowned interior designer Cliff Fong, who led design at PS LAX.

• Discounted parking is available at MIA’s remote Economy Park and Ride lot, and Valet Parking is located directly across from MIA’s check-in area at doors 2 and 20 in both the Dolphin and Flamingo garages.
• Alternate ground transportation options include ride-share and taxi services.
• MIA’s Cell Phone Waiting Lot, which provides 60 free parking spaces for non-commercial users waiting to pick up travelers, is located just off LeJeune Road and N.W. 31^st Street, accessible from LeJeune Road heading north or south.

TSA Screening

• Since May 7, 2025, all U.S. travelers must have a Real ID-compliant driver’s license, U.S. passport, or another acceptable form of identification to board domestic flights.
• Pack essential items such as medicine, travel documents, a phone charger, and a change of clothes in your carry-on instead of your checked bag in case your flight gets delayed and you are not able to quickly retrieve your checked bag.
• To expedite TSA checkpoint screening, wear easily removable shoes, follow the 3-1-1 rule for liquids or gels in your carry-on, and avoid accessories that resemble weapons and other prohibited items. Find more TSA tips on the TSA website.

International Travel

• If traveling internationally, eligible travelers can use the free, secure Mobile Passport Control app on their smartphone or tablet to submit their passport and customs declaration information and avoid completing a paper form or using an automated passport control kiosk. 
• Special accessibility lanes are available for passengers with disabilities or limited mobility arriving from foreign destinations. By completing an accessibility lane request form at MIA’s website 48 hours before their arrival, those passengers can request special queueing assistance in MIA’s U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) area.

American is operating its largest summer schedule to date from MIA, underscoring the airline’s commitment to Miami-Dade County and its 35-year legacy as Miami’s hometown airline. Earlier this month, the airline inaugurated new service from MIA to Rome (FCO). The airline offers customers access to 90 unique destinations served exclusively by American at MIA.

Wisk Aero, a leading advanced air mobility (AAM) company and developer of the first all-electric, self-flying air taxi in the U.S., today announced the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) – one with the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) and another with the University of Miami’s Miami Engineering and Aviation Mobility Initiative (MEAMI). These collaborations mark a significant step towards integrating safe, autonomous air travel to Miami, Florida, one of the nation's largest metropolitan areas.

The MOU with MDAD is focused on strategic planning, infrastructure development, and policy pathways for autonomous AAM in Miami-Dade County. Under the terms of the MOU,

• Wisk and MDAD will collaborate to identify optimal locations and assess the development of vertiport infrastructure at MDAD airports, including MIA, Miami Executive Airport (KTMB), and Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport (OPF), to enable Wisk's autonomous AAM operations.
• Wisk will provide technical guidance on vertiport needs for autonomous operations to inform the design and development of infrastructure and flight procedures, as well as plan for potential site expansion.
• MDAD will incorporate autonomous AAM considerations into existing planning efforts, including airport development, electrical infrastructure, and airspace management, and integrate AAM plans within Miami-Dade County, connecting MDAD airports to the broader region.

The MOU with the University of Miami MEAMI establishes a framework for collaborative research and development that will further advance autonomous mobility technology. Under the terms of the MOU,

• Wisk and MEAMI will research vertiport design standards, optimal siting analysis within urban environments, and integration with existing transportation networks.

Miami International Airport has partnered with Baltimore-based software company ReBokeh Vision Technologies to launch free, unlimited access to ReBokeh’s empowerment-driven assistive technology software for low-vision users. With this partnership, MIA becomes the first airport on the planet to offer ReBokeh’s sole-source technology. The Rebokeh app is available for Apple users. 

ReBokeh’s technology works by allowing users to leverage the live camera feed from their mobile devices with overlayed, customized filters that adjust aspects like contrast, color hue, zoom, and lighting to meet the needs of low-vision users. ReBokeh AI, a brand-new feature, also offers the opportunity for lengthened interactions with ReBokeh’s custom-built AI tool. Users can ask ReBokeh AI personalized questions like what’s around them and what they’re seeing.

Low-vision travelers can leverage ReBokeh at MIA in countless ways: reading navigational signs and gate information, clarifying arrival and departure monitors, or finding their favorite restaurant, shop, or lounge. ReBokeh AI also works in multiple languages and will default to whichever language is selected in the user’s general mobile device settings, allowing ReBokeh AI to work as a translation tool for signage, information, and visual surroundings.

Designed by and for the low-vision community, ReBokeh is built to serve the 90% of blind and low-vision individuals who retain some functional sight. The mobile app-based software takes an empowerment-centric approach to assistive tech, providing a tool that allows low-vision individuals to use the vision they have, rather than replacing it with audio or tactile descriptions.

The ReBokeh app is the latest innovation in accessibility launched under MIA’s award-winning MyMIAccess program.  In 2023, MIA became the first airport in Florida and 2^nd in the U.S. to be accredited by Airport Council International’s Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation program because of its commitment to inclusivity for passengers with disabilities.

ReBokeh is a SaaS company that creates accessibility tools for organizations to support the low-vision community. Built by and for the low-vision community, ReBokeh’s sole-source mobile technology empowers low-vision individuals to make the most of their functional vision, rather than defaulting away from it. It works by allowing users to make specially designed adjustments to a live camera feed to meet their unique visual needs, while offering a powerful AI tool to provide additional details and information.

Before traveling by air, passengers at Miami International Airport can take a trip through time by visiting the airport’s new art mural Wolfson Archives: Celebrating 40 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Sharing South Florida’s Visual History. The exhibition is now on view until September 2025 at the Concourse E arrivals level near Door 11, pre-security. 

The collection of images and video content, spanning from the 1920s to the present, includes home movies, travelogues, promotional films, and news footage that document the growth and ever-changing landscape of South Florida. From photographs of the original Miami Daily News building (now Freedom Tower) and Flagler Railroad construction to more recent images of the Miami Marlins’ first World Series run and the Miami Grand Prix, the mural also highlights local influential figures, historical personalities, and key events that have shaped Miami-Dade County and the state over the last century.

For four decades, the Miami Dade College Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives (Wolfson Archives) have served as a vital repository of South Florida's visual history through moving images.  

The Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Florida Moving Image Archives is a one-of-a-kind collection of film and video related to Florida, with a particular emphasis on television news and home movies from the twentieth century. Based at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, the Wolfson Archives houses over 35,000 hours of videotape and 23 million feet of film documenting Florida history.

Wolfson Archives: Celebrating 40 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Sharing South Florida’s Visual History is supported by Miami Dade College; the Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Family Foundation; and with the support of the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs and the Cultural Affairs Council, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the Board of County Commissioners.

Global Traveler conducted a survey of its readers from September 20, 2024, to January 30, 2025, with open-ended questions for the best in many categories of leisure, luxury, and lifestyle travel. The survey was published in the magazine, as an insert within subscriber copies, as a direct mail questionnaire, online, and was emailed.

The event was the second part of the MIA Runway 5K 2025 Series, following the Miami Executive Airport Runway 5K on March 8. The final 5K at Miami International Airport will be held on October 18. Exploring her relationship with the lush greenery of her native Belize - one of the world's most biodiverse countries – and Miami, where the artist lives and works, Bradley's work serves as a pathway to understanding identity, belonging, histories, and relationships. The exhibition uses the color green to study abundance and freedom. It includes 12 archival fine art prints consisting of color and black-and-white photography along with alternative processed images that might initially seem like underexposed mishaps.  

In Bradley's colored photographs, green emerges as a central theme, symbolizing abundance and freedom. Featured works such as Embedded in the backyard (2022) allow passengers to absorb themselves in the rich depth of natural beauty, while pieces like Warm breeze in the pasture and When the sun meets the river (both from 2024) evoke a feeling of being enveloped in lush landscapes prompting contemplation of one's place within these expansive environments.

The works are bookmarked by two color-overlaid photographs debossed with poems by the artist that reflect abundance, freedom, and endless possibilities. These textual elements further deepen the viewer's connection to the visual experience, establishing a dialogue between image and word.

Based in Belize and Miami, Amanda Bradley received a BFA in photography from New World School of the Arts in Miami. Her work explores place and landscape as a means to connect and understand identity, belonging, histories, and relationships. Photographs are central to the work, which sometimes expands to include installation, video and other alternative forms of printing and photographic processes. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibitions internationally. Bradley was a Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator (DVCAI) artist-in-residence in Suriname in 2023, Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA) artist-in-residence at Faena in 2020 and participated in the Home + Away residency at Atlantic Center for the Arts with Oolite Arts in 2019. She is a 2025 and 2024 recipient of the Catalyst Award from DVCAI, and a two-time Suncoast Regional Emmy award-winning producer. 

The children practiced entering the airport, getting boarding passes, going through security, and boarding an American Airlines plane with the airline’s gate agents and flight crew. The program also served as a learning experience for airline and airport workers at MIA. The goal of the MIAair program is for anyone - regardless of their disability - to experience the magic and wonder of flight. Since launching the MIAair tours in 2015, in partnership with UM-NSU Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), MIA has now hosted tours for more than 300 children with special needs.

The investment in the MIA Lounge emphasizes Avianca's strategy to strengthen its connection to the U.S. market, particularly in Miami, which serves as a strategic hub for travelers heading to Latin America.

The lounge is expected to serve over 16,500 passengers in 2025, considering Avianca's 249 weekly frequencies across 36 routes to and from the United States.

Honda recently completed a three-month pilot program at Miami Homestead General and Miami Executive Airport. The prototype Honda AWV and AWM have been operating four days a week after being programmed with autonomous navigation and obstacle avoidance technology. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department will now evaluate the pilot program’s results to determine if it wants to move forward with requesting proposals for a long-term contract for automated work vehicles.
