American launches largest winter schedule ever at MIA

On December 1, American Airlines launched new service from Miami International Airport to Chetumal, Mexico (CTM), marking the beginning of the airline’s Miami hub winter operation. This month, American will also launch new Miami service to San Andres, Colombia (ADZ), Dominica (DOM) and Anguilla (AXA), further strengthening the airline’s presence at MIA, its largest international gateway.

This winter we’ve doubled-down on our commitment to Miami, hiring more than 1,500 new team members and adding new destinations, more frequencies to existing markets and more widebody flying. As a result, American will be operating the largest schedules in the history of our Miami hub, serving more passengers than ever before.
Juan Carlos Liscano, Vice President of MIA Hub Operations

With these network additions and more widebody flying, this winter the airline will operate up to 378 daily flights to 140 destinations, marking an almost 19% increase in seat capacity versus winter 2019-2020.

American’s four new international destinations launching this month— CTM, ADZ, DOM and AXA— are all operated biweekly by Envoy with Embraer 175 aircraft. With these new markets, American will now serve 28 destinations in Mexico, seven in Colombia and 35 in the Caribbean.

American also recently added more domestic flying at MIA, including seasonal Saturday-only service to Albany, New York (ALB); Burlington, Vermont (BTV); Madison, Wisconsin (MSN); Syracuse, New York (SYR) and Tulsa, Oklahoma (TUL). Daily seasonal service to Salt Lake City (SLC) launches on Dec. 16.

Thanks to American’s steadfast commitment over the last year and a half as our largest airline partner, MIA has rebounded from the pandemic to become the fastest-growing airport in the U.S. and its busiest airport for international passengers. Its new routes from MIA to destinations in Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean will further solidify our position as the busiest U.S. gateway to the Americas.
